Kazakhstan Releases a Tiger Into the Wild for the First Time in 70 Years

On July 31, Kazakhstan released Umit, a female Amur tiger, into a nature reserve — the country's first tiger release in over 70 years. Tigers there died out a century ago. Umit is one of four tigers brought from Russia to rebuild the population. The other three wait while scientists see how Umit adjusts to the wild.
