Google AI Leader Demis Hassabis Shifts to New Role at Parent Company Alphabet

Demis Hassabis, who ran Google's AI lab DeepMind, is stepping back from daily operations to become chief scientist for Google's parent company, Alphabet, Axios reported August 5. DeepMind's top engineer, Koray Kavukcuoglu, takes over and reports directly to CEO Sundar Pichai. Hassabis will also keep leading Isomorphic Labs, an Alphabet venture using AI to discover new drugs.
