Powerful New Telescope Captures 500,000+ Galaxies in a Single Photo

The Vera C. Rubin Observatory has released its first photo and catalog from the COSMOS field, capturing over 500,000 galaxies and 50,000 stars in one frame. Released July 31, 2026, the catalog pairs precise brightness and position measurements with the image, giving scientists usable, citable data rather than just a pretty picture.
