Rubin Observatory Releases First Science-Ready Catalog — 500,000+ Galaxies in a Single Frame

The Vera C. Rubin Observatory has released its first LSST Camera image and science-ready catalog of the COSMOS field, capturing over 500,000 galaxies and 50,000 stars in one 3.2-gigapixel frame. Released July 31, 2026, the catalog pairs calibrated photometry and astrometry with the image — giving researchers citable data products, not just press composites.
