
South Korea hits its hottest temperature ever recorded: 42.5°C in Yangsan
On August 3, 2026, the city of Yangsan reached 42.5°C — the hottest temperature recorded in South Korea since record-keeping began 122 years ago, and the highest ever for the entire Korean Peninsula. At least 19 people have died from the heat, 13 of them aged 80 or older.
