On August 3, 2026, Yangsan hit 42.5°C — the highest temperature recorded in South Korea since modern record-keeping began 122 years ago, and a new all-time high for the Korean Peninsula. At least 19 heatwave deaths have been reported, 13 of them among people aged 80 or older.
