Former Bangladesh Leader Sentenced to Death Says She'll Return

Sheikh Hasina, who led Bangladesh until she was removed from power, was sentenced to death while absent from the country. A court found she ordered police and soldiers to shoot at protesters in 2024, killing around 1,400 people. Now living in India, the 78-year-old told Reuters she will return by December 2026 despite the risk. A Bangladeshi official said she will be jailed.
