Death-Sentenced Ex-PM Hasina Vows to Return to Bangladesh by December

Ousted Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, sentenced to death in absentia for ordering forces to fire on protesters during the 2024 crackdown that killed an estimated 1,400 people, told Reuters she plans to return from Indian exile around December 2026. Hasina, 78, said: "They may arrest me... they may even kill me. Still, I have to go." A Bangladesh minister said she will be jailed on return.
