Michigan Senate Race: El-Sayed Narrowly Ahead as Votes Still Counted

Abdul El-Sayed, a progressive former health official, held a slim lead over moderate Rep. Haley Stevens in Michigan's August 4 Democratic Senate primary — a party contest to pick who runs in the general election. Votes were still being counted. The winner faces Republican Mike Rogers in November for the seat left by retiring Senator Gary Peters. Stevens said she'd back El-Sayed if he wins.
