Victoria's watchdog finds government gave firefighters union secret influence

Victoria's anti-corruption watchdog released its Operation Richmond report on 5 August 2026. It found senior figures in the former Andrews government made a secret deal giving firefighters union leader Peter Marshall extraordinary influence over pay negotiations for two fire services. No one was found corrupt. The union spent years in court, even reaching the High Court, to stop the report coming out.
