Burnham blocks rapists and child abusers from early prison release — but not domestic abusers

Prime Minister Andy Burnham's new plan to let some prisoners out early fully blocks rapists and child abusers. But domestic abusers — people who hurt partners or family — can still be released early. That includes two men jailed over PC Andrew Harper's death. Domestic abuse commissioner Dame Nicole Jacobs called the gap "wrong" and dangerous for victims. A 2024 plan had protected them. The Justice Ministry won't say how many are affected.
