Two Deaths Tied to Largest US Parasite Outbreak on Record
Two Michigan residents with serious existing health problems died from cyclosporiasis, an illness caused by a parasite that infects the intestines. These are the first deaths in the largest outbreak ever recorded in the US. Michigan alone reports 11,234 cases and 193 hospitalizations. The FDA traced the source to iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms in central Mexico; the affected batches were likely already eaten.
