First Deaths Recorded in Largest US Cyclosporiasis Outbreak
Two Michigan residents with significant underlying health conditions died from cyclosporiasis, the state health department announced — the first fatalities in the largest recorded US outbreak of the parasitic intestinal illness. Michigan alone reports 11,234 cases and 193 hospitalizations. An FDA investigation traced the outbreak to iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms operations in central Mexico; implicated lots were likely already consumed.
