Greens hope oil-tanker dispute wins them a B.C. by-election

Green Leader Elizabeth May says her party can win a by-election — a single-riding vote to fill a vacant seat — in North Vancouver–Capilano on Aug. 31. The Greens are targeting Ottawa's approval of deepening Vancouver's Burrard Inlet so larger Trans Mountain oil tankers can use it. Candidate Shelley Luce, an environmental scientist, faces Liberal Braeden Caley and Conservative Stephen Curran. Poll analyst Éric Grenier calls a Green win "quite a surprise," but he underestimated the party after its P.E.I. upset.
