Two Firefighting Helicopters Crash Into Each Other Near Athens

On August 2, 2026, two firefighting helicopters crashed into each other in midair near Psatha, west of Athens, while fighting wildfires. TV footage showed one aircraft explode and fall in flames after their spinning rotor blades apparently hit each other. Both helicopters had taken off from Elefsina military airport. Search and rescue teams were sent to find the crews.
