Google and energy company Eni agree to buy power from a fusion plant that hasn't proven itself yet

Commonwealth Fusion Systems, which is building a fusion power plant in Virginia, has signed Eni and Google as its first committed customers. Eni pledged over $1 billion for electricity; Google pledged 200 megawatts, half the plant's output. Both deals were signed before the company's test reactor demonstrates fusion can produce more energy than it uses, expected in 2027.
