Samsung's Phone Division Loses Money for the First Time

Samsung's phone, TV, and appliance division lost 800 billion won ($544 million) last quarter — its first loss ever. The reason: memory chips got more expensive, which helped Samsung's chip business but raised the cost of building its own phones. Cheaper phones took the biggest hit because they earn the least profit.
