Drug giant GSK to close one research site and move scientists to Cambridge

Drugmaker GSK will close its Stevenage research site by 2029 and relocate over 1,000 scientists to a new Cambridge lab. The company aims to save £1.9bn a year, spending £2.4bn to do so. It would not say how many jobs might be cut. Rival AstraZeneca also committed £200m to Cambridge in April 2026.
