GSK to close Stevenage R&D site, consolidate 1,000+ scientists into Cambridge in £1.9bn cost-cutting push
GSK will close its Stevenage R&D site by 2029 and relocate over 1,000 scientists to a new 300,000 sq ft facility on the Cambridge biomedical campus, part of a £1.9bn annual savings programme costing £2.4bn to implement. The company declined to disclose global redundancy numbers. The move consolidates UK pharma R&D around Cambridge, where AstraZeneca also committed £200m in April 2026.
