New Defence Secretary says UK could clear mines from key shipping route

Defence Secretary Wes Streeting, appointed 21 July, said the UK is ready to lead a naval mission to clear mines from the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow sea passage between Iran and Oman that carries much of the world's oil. He said the crisis is pushing up energy prices and living costs. He meets US defence chief Pete Hegseth this week.
