New Defence Secretary offers UK to lead mine-clearance mission in Strait of Hormuz

Defence Secretary Wes Streeting, appointed 21 July, said the UK is ready to lead a naval mission to remove mines from the Strait of Hormuz "when conditions are right." He stressed the chokepoint's importance because the crisis is affecting energy prices and the cost of living. He meets US counterpart Pete Hegseth in the coming week.
