French Wildfire Became So Intense It Made Its Own Weather

A wildfire near Arcachon Bay in France grew so hot that it created its own weather — spinning up winds and whirlwinds that firefighters called unmanageable. By 26 July 2026, the fire had burned over 8,700 hectares, injured 42 firefighters, and pushed evacuation alerts across southwestern France.
