Clio's $1 Billion Move Into Legal Research Takes on Industry Giants

Canadian software company Clio acquired legal research platform vLex for $1 billion in November 2025, bringing over 350 experts on board. The deal is the largest technology merger in legal industry history. Clio, which manages schedules and client records for law firms, now combines those tools with vLex's database of laws across many countries and jurisdictions — directly challenging Thomson Reuters and LexisNexis, who have long dominated the legal research market.
