Sony Plans to Stop Making Game Discs by 2028 — Right After an Online Outage Showed the Risk

Sony will stop making physical PlayStation game discs by January 2028. Stores will sell digital codes instead — like gift cards that let you download a game. But a July 24 outage of Sony's online network stopped gamers everywhere from playing downloaded games for hours. Sony hasn't said what caused it.
