Anthropic's New AI Model, Claude Opus 5, Costs Half as Much as Its Top Model

Anthropic released Claude Opus 5 on July 24, 2026. The AI model costs $5 per million words of text fed in and $25 per million words generated — unchanged from the prior version and half the price of Anthropic's most powerful model, Claude Fable 5. Anthropic says Opus 5 nearly matches Fable 5 in ability, with big gains in coding, reasoning, and task automation. It also slightly undercuts OpenAI's GPT-5.6.
