Rare heron spotted for three days at restored Somerset wetland

A rare black-crowned night heron was photographed across three days at Somerset's Holnicote Estate, a wetland rebuilt by letting a river spread naturally across its surrounding land. The species first raised young in the UK in Somerset in 2017. Its repeated return to a site designed to attract such birds suggests these restored habitats may be helping rare species settle in new areas.
