KiwiRail told to save up for its next ferries

KiwiRail must save money over 30 years to buy its own Cook Strait ferries in 2059, Rail Minister Winston Peters told Parliament. Governments have long argued over who pays when new ferries are needed. Whether KiwiRail can save enough on tight earnings is the unanswered question.
