Laos plans light punishment after poisoned drinks killed six tourists

Laos will charge suspects after six tourists died from methanol-laced drinks in Vang Vieng last November. Methanol is a dangerous chemical sometimes found in cheap, unregulated alcohol. The maximum punishment: one year in jail and a A$1,600 fine. Australia called that unacceptable, sent a representative, and will raise the issue with Southeast Asian leaders. Victims' families agree the penalties fall short.
