Apple has sued former systems engineer Chang Liu, who left for OpenAI in February 2026, claiming he exploited a previously unknown security weakness to access and download confidential hardware designs. The gap in the company's security controls went undetected until Liu found it himself. Records show only he used it. Apple has now fixed the problem.
