SpaceX's new AI model costs much less—but does something different

SpaceX released an AI model called Grok 4.5 on July 8, priced about four times lower than Anthropic's comparable model. The lower cost particularly applies when the AI generates longer responses—which matters for tasks where the model works through complex problems step by step. SpaceX says its model is more efficient. It launches publicly July 9, one day before a competitor's new release.
