New Mexico Orders Meta to Pay $25 Billion in Fines
A New Mexico judge ordered Meta, the company behind Facebook, to pay $25 billion in fines on October 21, 2026. The fines cover more than 43 million violations of state consumer-protection law. The case began in 2021 with a complaint over Cambridge Analytica, a firm that gathered Facebook users' personal data. Meta says it expects to win on appeal.
