Canada Chooses German Company to Build New Submarines

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced July 6 that Germany's ThyssenKrupp won Canada's competition to build up to 12 new submarines. The vessels will cost $20-30 billion; running them will cost another $40-50 billion. Germany partnered with Norway on the bid. South Korea's competing company lost. Carney called it Canada's biggest government purchase ever.
