Betfred owners took £30m while warning shops could close

The family that owns Betfred paid itself £30m from company profits in the year to March 2026, bringing payouts since 2022 to over £105m. Company filings say the cash went back into other family businesses. That makes it harder to judge betting-shop warnings that a possible tax rise on gaming machines would force many shops to close.
