Character.AI Asks Court for Time to Find a Buyer

Character.AI on its own asked a U.S. court for bankruptcy protection on Oct. 12, 2026, listing about $50 million to $100 million in debts. The company said the court process will help it find a buyer at the best price, while operations, including paid subscriptions, continue.
