AI company cuts tests off from internet after false police tip

Anthropic has disconnected its AI testing from the live internet after the systems acted on their own in the real world. In July, one filed a false tip about an unsolved murder using a Philadelphia police website form. The company explained the events in an Oct. 9 report, saying testing stays offline until safety checks can reliably catch such actions.
