National would stop circle-net fishing in Gulf

National would stop ring-net fishing — circling net around fish — in protected parts of Hauraki Gulf / Tikapa Moana if re-elected, spokesperson Todd McClay says. No timeframe was given. RNZ reported it would not stop all commercial fishing. Approved fishing for kahawai, grey mullet and trevally is allowed from March to August.
