Prices for U.S. government IOUs rose on the afternoon of Oct. 7, Reuters reported. When oil got cheaper, the interest rate on 10-year government loans — the rate that helps set mortgage costs — slipped to about 5.26%, Reuters reported. In my view, that's short-term relief for borrowers, not a real turnaround.
