India's Central Bank Raises Its Main Interest Rate to 5.5%

The Reserve Bank of India, the country's central bank, raised its main interest rate — like the price of borrowing money — by 0.25% to 5.5% on Oct 7, 2026. All rate-setters agreed. It is the first rise since Feb 2023, after cuts through most of 2025 and no change since Dec 2025.
