Researchers Build a New Type of Computer That Works at Much Larger Scale

Scientists at Northwestern and UC Santa Barbara have built a new probabilistic computer—one that makes decisions based on probability rather than fixed yes-or-no rules—scaled to one million processing units. The design works well with existing computers and can be reprogrammed for different problems, rather than being locked into one specific task.
