Exiled Catalan Leader Can Come Home Without Arrest
Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont, living outside Spain to avoid arrest, can return freely. On Oct. 6, 2026, Supreme Court judge Pablo Llarena canceled the order to arrest him. The decision came after the Constitutional Court sided with Dolors Bassa in the Catalonia independence case. Puigdemont fled after the 2017 vote, declared illegal, over claims he misused public money for it.
