NDIS blowout hits $50 billion, outpacing the defence budget

The NDIS will cost $50 billion next year — more than Australia spends on defence — after growing faster than expected each year since it started. Treasury says the spending can't keep going up like this. The scheme was always going to cost more once it got going, but now the bills are piling up faster than anyone can pay them.
