Tesla borrows $30 billion to build self-driving taxis, robots and trucks

Tesla secured $30 billion in borrowing, disclosed Sept. 29, 2026, to build its Cybercab self-driving taxi, Optimus robot and Semi truck. It includes a $20 billion three-year Citibank loan drawn as needed, an $8 billion five-year flexible loan from Wells Fargo, and a $2 billion one-year flexible loan. Each product needs new factory lines.
