Meta Halts Workplace Monitoring Program After Data Leak and Worker Protests
Meta paused a program that tracked employee keystrokes and mouse movements on June 22 following a security breach. The shutdown came after months of staff pushback, including a May protest and a petition from over 1,600 workers. The monitoring system, started in April to gather behavior data for artificial intelligence, had already offered opt-outs in June. Meta may restart it once it completes its security review.
