Meta Pauses Employee Tracking Program After Security Breach and Staff Revolt

Meta suspended its keystroke and mouse-movement monitoring program on June 22, citing a data security incident that exposed employee information. The pause followed months of escalating internal resistance, including a May protest and a petition signed by over 1,600 workers. The program, launched in April to harvest behavioral data for AI training, had already been modified once in early June to allow employee opt-outs. Meta has not ruled out resuming it after completing its security review.
