Child wrongly treated as adult at hospital, restrained and given sedative drugs

An 11-year-old autistic Māori girl was misidentified as an adult at Waikato Hospital and physically held down, then given sedative drugs to calm her. Hospital systems for checking who patients are and keeping them safe failed. The Mental Health Minister plans to apologise to her family. The hospital is considering paying compensation.
