UK plans £210m to turn empty shops into cafes and shared spaces

Prime Minister Andy Burnham has promised £210m to revive high streets. Shut shops, pubs and clubs would become workspaces, cafes and shared local spaces. He said it puts power back with locals who know their area best. The money comes from existing town renewal funds, shifted to local-led plans. A high streets plan is expected later in 2026.
