UN Experts Say Governments Should Set Guardrails for Smart AI Helpers

Governments should set early safety limits on AI helpers that can increasingly do tasks on their own, the UN's Independent International Scientific Panel on AI said Sept. 21 in its first focused report. The report looks at OpenAI's hack of Hugging Face earlier this year and calls for countries to work together more closely on safety and responsibility.
