Obama's Presidential Center Takes a Different Approach Than Others

The Obama Presidential Center opened to the public June 19 in Chicago. Unlike other presidential libraries, which are handed over to the federal government, the Obama Foundation kept private control of the building. Official documents are stored online through a separate deal with the National Archives. Some historians raised concerns during planning, but the foundation said the public would still be able to access the records.
