Why Three African Neighbors Split From Their Regional Group

Three West African countries — Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger — left their regional club, ECOWAS, on January 29, 2025. Think of it like leaving one neighborhood association to form their own, called the Alliance of Sahel States. The United Nations must now talk to leaders on both sides.
