Museum head says private Tapestry viewing for Thiel was meant to stay secret

British Museum leader George Osborne said he arranged a private look at the Bayeux Tapestry, an old artwork, for Peter Thiel, who started PayPal and tech firm Palantir. In Somerset on 19 September 2026, he said: "It wasn't like we expected anyone to know about it." Palantir has held a £330m deal with the NHS, Britain's health service, since 2023.
